Fortunately my students rarely ask me searching questions about the conceptual meaning of my weaving! A lot of the time they just want to know how to stop their selvedges curving in so much.
But one of the things I do try to explain is what “geometric weaving” means to me – and why I find it so fascinating.
On the surface, it seems like a question with a simple enough answer. It’s just weaving geometric shapes, right? But my goal isn’t to just teach people how to weave really neat circles, triangles and squares
(although that is a definite plus)
My goal is to share a way of working that recognises weaving as a fundamentally geometric craft.
